David Attenborough

David Frederick Attemborough was born on May 8th, 1926 in Isleworth Middlesex, England. He grew up with his 2 brothers, Richard and John. As the son of a University college principal, David was brought up in an environment where learning was highly encouraged and he spent his childhood collecting fossils, stones and other natural specimens.
In 1936 David and his brother Richard went to a lecture that was presented by a well known advocate for conservation. David was amazed by the passion, determination, and knowledge for the subject that the speaker showed, and that one event kick-started an incredible career, creating one of the worlds best known eco warriors and most vocal supporters of saving planet earth.

After graduating high school, David was awarded with a scholarship at Cambridge University to study natural sciences. Here he further pursued his love for the environment and his passion for the earth.
After completing his studies in 1947, David was called to serve in the Royal Navy for 2 years.
In 1949, David returned to London where he would soon find a job as an editor for an educational publisher. That following year he began a training programme for BBC which led to an incredible career spanning decades, both behind and in front of the camera, and making him one of the most powerful, knowledgeable and well loved naturalists the world has ever seen.

His passion for the environment, his research regarding every living thing, the effects of climate change and his commitment to saving the environment lead to an incredible number of honours and awards including a knighthood in 1985, an Order of Merit in 2002 and over 31 honorary degrees from various universities worldwide.

Sir David is also the most traveled person in history, and the oldest person to visit the North Pole.  As the biggest tribute to his great achievements, several species of plants, insects, birds and animals have been named in his honour which will continue to honour his name long after he is gone.
