Extreme Cross Country!

                     Extreme Cross Country
As I was running up the steep, steep hill I knew it wasn't going to be easy.I could smell the cow poop lingering around the track. I could not escape the yuck odor. I could hear the mud squishing beneath my feet."Finally I'm at the top" I said to my self. Then I looked down and realized it was not over yet.

I wondered if I could make it to the central zones. I stood at the top of the hill feeling accomplished as the cool breeze blew past my face.Just then I realized that people
were watching me,cheering for me and that gave me the boost to power through and eventually finish the race!

Delicious Bread + Butter

                Delicious Bread + Butter
                         Term 3 Wk 6
In Kakapo class we made bread and butter. We were split into groups where we had to find a table. Our group decided on who was going to do what.We all had to do something to contribute to our bread.
We needed:
Oil,
Yeast,
Sugar, (tiny bit)
Flour
& Warm water.
I learnt that yeast is a micro organism,(Microbe) that feeds on sugar. It eats sugar and then it creates a gas called carbon dioxide.
The carbon dioxide gets trapped in the bread mixture and creates little pockets of air making the bread light and airy.
We did not leave the yeast for long enough to rise so our bread was pretty dense and doughy. Then we had to make butter. We used salt and heavy cream to create butter. We put the ingredients in a plastic bag and started mixing the ingredients together outside. We mixed it outside because it was cold, and it would help turn the ingredients into yummy butter!
Have you ever made homemade bread or butter?

Museum Trip

In our class we went on a trip to our local museum.
When we got there we had to get into groups of four. Our group name was "The Kiwi Kids". In our group there was me (Blake), Tiana , Poppy and Caleb. The museum curator (museum guide) was called Whina. She was very nice . She handed a piece of paper to all of the groups. The piece of paper had a scavenger hunt on it. The groups (including our group) had to look around the museum for the things on the piece of paper. All and all it was very fun!

On that day I learnt that "Coins" Was a very popular butter making company back in the day. I also learnt that Jean Francois Marie De Surville had 3 anchors but he had to cut off 2 of them to get away from the stormy weather and one of those 3 anchors are still out there!

This is what the anchor at our local museum looks like:

Sandra Siberzweig

In my class we have been focusing on an artist Called Sandra Siberzweig. We have been making art inspired by her.In her artwork she used a lot of abstract shapes and colours. She mainly used primary colours like blue, red and  yellow. Her art style is like this  image down here.

She used colours that stood out so we did too.
We made self Portraits in this sort of style.
We also incorporated it into our learning              contracts.
     Who is your favorite artist?
