The Rabbit Proof Fence

The Rabbit Proof Fence.

In class we had watched a movie called The Rabbit Proof Fence.
It was about 3 half-caste girls that had been taken away from their family by an english man. That man took them to a society here half-Caste children were trained to be like people with lighter skin colour than them. They did not like this environment so they decided to make an escape. A man called the tracker was the person who makes sure that the children are doing what they are supposed to do so when the girls decided to escape, he was following them every step of the way.

The Rabbit Proof Fence

It was a regular day at home with my family.
We’d been hunting for our dinner and we had succeeded!
I was bringing home our catch when suddenly, some kind of vehicle stopped at our house. Our home was engulfed in rust coloured dust. My mother told me to hide the kids. I grabbed Daisy and Gracie and bolted towards the nearest rock. Somehow he saw us and instantly, he ran towards us with a nasty grin upon his face. I had no idea what was going on but I was scared anyway. He grabbed Daisy by the arm and pulled her towards his vehicle. She tried her best to escape the clutch of the invader. Next he came for Gracie. Much like Daisy she resisted with all of her might but once again, failed to get free. All of my family were desperately trying to fight off the man. Next he grabbed me and threw me into the vehicle. As he drove off with us in the vehicle, there was nothing left to do except look back at our family, whose faces were growing sadder and sadder by each passing second.

I don’t remember much of our travels. I woke up inside some sort of cage with Daisy and Gracie at my side. I could feel myself dozing off again and before I knew it, I was asleep again. When I woke up we were in a strange place called “Moore River”.
Once we arrived we were taken into a building where we had to put on some strange clothing Each day we had to attend church. Moore River had lots of dark skinned children there. We did not feel comfortable in this sort of environment/ lifestyle. Because of this we decided to attempt an escape. Soon after we settled, we saw a girl named Sally get whipped half to death by a large man riding atop of a horse because she tried to escape, and failed. His name was the tracker (Moodoo). The tracker’s purpose is to make sure that all of the people inside Moore River are where they are meant to be.  This feat made it extra important to not get caught.

We set off on our escapade whilst everyone was in church.  It was raining during the period of our first breakthrough so our footprints would initially be covered by the heavy rainfall. We walked and walked until we came across a small river. I placed one of my satchels that we were given at Moore River on a small plant at the riverside to deceive The Tracker.  We then proceeded to go the opposite direction of the bag placement.
From there the journey was long and tiresome. We struggled and struggled until we finally reached signs of life. We came across a man living in a make-shift shelter out in the middle of nowhere. After we told the man where we were headed he knew what we were talking about. He kindly gave us some food and pointed us in the direction of the “Rabbit Proof Fence”.

We walked for weeks and weeks until we finally came across the fence that the man was talking about.
The gleaming, fire coloured sun slowly rose over the horizon. The heat was beginning to become unbearable.
The fatigue of walking was hitting us hard. We had to stop multiple times to rest our aching bodies.
We eventually came across an old woman's house. She caught me trying to steal the bread scraps from the chicken coop. She was kind and made us some “real food” which we gulped down like our lives depended on it.  After we had eaten, we explained to her our ultimate goal. She said that to reach our destination we had been following the wrong fence. She pointed us in the direction of the correct fence and we said our goodbye’s.

After walking for days we finally reached the new fence. We trudged along in the blazing hot sun. The dirt beneath our feet was hot enough to cook an egg. Once again, our stomachs were rumbling and our mouths were dry.
We eventually stumbled upon another house. After borrowing some wooly socks off the clothesline for our aching feet we snuck up to peer in through a window. There was a woman inside sitting on a couch. We knocked on the door in the hope of some refuge. Being unused to visitors, the woman was a little startled when she first saw us but after we explained our situation, she relaxed a little and got more and more accepting of our presence.

Suddenly, we heard loud footsteps resonating through the hallway. I instantly grabbed the girls and threw a blanket over us. As I peered past the woolen blanket, I caught a glimpse of the man before his violent searching around the room drove me to take cover again. The man was tall, muscular and he had a British accent. He stood over us like a living, breathing skyscraper. I guess he noticed a slight shift in the blanket. He pulled back our cover and his eyes widened with horror. He swung his arm towards my ankle but luckily he missed and we had an opportunity to escape. He perilously chased us through the house until we came across a door. We  grasped at the opportunity to make an escape for the second time.

After walking furthermore, we ran into a man living at a small campsite by himself. We told him our purpose of travelling and he directed us to a nearby train station that was hopefully near our home. Gracie was falling behind but me and Daisy didn’t notice. We had arrived at the train station and we noticed that Gracie was not with us so we decided to wait. We looked back and saw her playing on the train tracks. Out of nowhere, the same vehicle that had abducted us previously flew around the corner and snatched up Gracie. Me and Daisy jumped behind a nearby log and watched on helplessly as Gracie was taken away, never to be seen again. After grieving for what seemed like years, we decided to get a move on. We continued our journey towards our home. We saw a faint shadow in the distance. “Could it be?” we thought to ourselves. We played it off as a hallucination from being under the constant strain of the sun. But then, we saw the spirit bird that our parents had talked to us about. The spirit bird was a source of guidance. Whenever you saw this bird it would signal that you are close to what your heart desires. In this case, it was our home. As we walked closer to the shadow in the distance, we could feel ourselves slipping away from consciousness, and at that moment, we both collapsed onto the dry, cracked ground beneath our feet. I was prepared to say my final goodbye to Daisy when suddenly, an anonymous force filled our bodies with adrenaline. Simultaneously, we thanked the spirit bird and sprinted toward our home. As we came to the final stretch of our journey, we saw our parents jumping up and down with happiness. Their eyes widened with excitement but their mouths closed with confusion. As we realised why they were confused, we dropped to the floor crying as we remembered about our heartbreaking loss. Everyone huddled together and hugged for what seemed like eternity. We later found out that Gracie was whipped to death by the people at Moore River.

Flipgrid Task- Maths!

                              Flipgrid Task

In class we have a maths contract. On the contract we have multiple tasks that we have to complete by a certain time. One of those tasks was to complete two maths tasks from a slideshow.

Flipgrid is an app used to show people your learning. Here are my two tasks:
