Knot Tying!

                                     Knot Tying

In my class we have been learning about knots ! The reason why we are learning about knots is for life/survival skills.
We are about to go on camp so we will be able to practice those knots just in case there is a real emergency that knots are needed for.

I learnt how to tie a Figure 8 Knot, Noose Knot and an overhand knot.

The Figure 8 Knot is a simple stopper knot.======================

The Noose Knot is used for catching / snaring small animals.============

The overhand knot is also a simple stopper, very similar to the Figure 8 Knot.======================

This activity was so fun!

Google Doc Ninja Challenge

                     Google Doc Ninja Challenge

Today in class we did the "Google Doc Ninja Challenge". I earned the Google Belt today. To do the Google Doc Challenge our class had to complete tasks that had to do with typing, layouts, fonts, colours and more! I found this challenge very fun and some of it was a little tricky! We have done the Google Doc Ninja Challenge because our buddy blog class at Matawai school, Room 4, did some blog posts about it and we thought we would give it a go with our Manaia Kalani Facilitator helping us along the way.We had 1 hour to complete the challenge. This is a picture of me completing the challenge! I am proud of achieving this award.
I learnt all about shortcuts and things that will help me with my google document work! Have you done"The Google Doc Ninja Challenge"?

All Saints Day

                              All Saints Day

On the 1st of November we celebrated All Saints Day.
All Saints Day is a day where we can celebrate our favourite saints. We had the choice to dress up as them or come to school in our school uniform. When we got to school we got given a little name-tag saying: (what our Saints names are) or if you didn't dress up it said: Saint in training.
I did not dress up as anyone.

We had five people that dressed up as: Saint Mary, Saint Lucia, Saint George, Saint John The Baptist and Saint Anastasia.
What is your favourite saint?

Far North Wonders

                          Far North Wonders

Up in the Far North we have many things to see and do like beautiful scenery, glorious beaches and more! In our inquiry this year we have been learning about NZ history, our local history and this term we are looking at geography of NZ because we are reading a book called 'Cuz' that is set in NZ.
In the Far North you can grab an ice cream (the biggest ever! 4 scoops with a lolly on top) from Te Kao and chillax on the warm sand of the many beaches around the Far North.

You could have a drive through the Mangamuka Gorge and have a look at the beautiful bush.

Do you like sand? Well if so you should check out the Te Paki Sand Dunes! Whether you just wanna chill or have a thrill, you can do both!

There are many amazing things to do in the Far North. There are many more incredible places in New Zealand! We are lucky to live in such a special country.

In our class we have been learning about Fiords and Sounds. Not the sounds you hear, the Sounds in Geography.  They are stunning parts of NZ.

Beeswax wraps!!

                          Beeswax Wraps!!

In class We have made Beeswax wraps. They are  fabric coated in melted beeswax. We could also draw our design of choice on the fabric before coating them in beeswax. We did this so we could help the environment. We are helping the environment by not using plastic or toxic materials for wrapping our lunch. The plastic in our lunch boxes will most ,likely blow away into the ocean. From there many animals like birds and sea life will eat them. If they do they will be very sick but if our beeswax wraps somehow end up in the ocean that can be eaten and the animals wont get sick. We are also trying to replace plastic with our wraps so there will be no more pollution around the world!
What is your favourite Lunch-Box food?
